Gentle trunk turns

Keep your hips generally facing forward. Gently turn your upper body to one side and return to the middle, five times each way.

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet apart and firmly planted, knees relaxed and hands lightly in front of your chest. Breathe naturally.
  2. Keep your lower body roughly forward and gently turn your upper body right and back to center, then left and back. Move slowly within a comfortable range without swinging.
  3. Alternate sides for 5 turns each way, then face forward and relax your arms.

Make it easier

  • Use a smaller turn and keep both feet firmly planted.

When to stop or adjust

  • Stop for pain, marked dizziness or unsteadiness; settle into a stable seated or supported standing position.
