60% to below 70% of reserve

Zone 2 starts at resting heart rate + 60% of reserve and ends just below resting heart rate + 70% of reserve. Reserve means estimated maximum heart rate minus resting heart rate. The same percentage of maximum heart rate gives a different result.

Intensity and structure are different

The App uses Zone 2 for ordinary running plans and, depending on recent activity, for walking or cycling. Running work may be continuous or split into bouts. The zone describes the work intensity; it does not specify how long you should keep going.

Do not borrow another “Zone 2”

Advice called “Zone 2 training” elsewhere may use a measured threshold or another formula. It is not automatically advice for this band. Conversation and perceived effort provide useful context, but being able to talk does not locate an exact App boundary.
