Aerobic exercise
Walking
Walk on a level surface with a natural stride.
← Back to the training library
How to do it
- Choose a level, clear route and start with an easy walk.
- Relax your shoulders and breathe naturally as you walk. Adjust your pace without overstriding or suddenly speeding up to chase momentary heart-rate readings.
- If you alternate brisk and easy walking, slow down during the easy portions to recover.
- Gradually slow down before coming to a steady stop.
Make it easier
- Slow down. Stop if continuing feels unsuitable; do not push through discomfort.
When to stop or adjust
- Stop for chest pain, marked dizziness, unusual breathlessness or pain. Do not continue on unsuitable surfaces or equipment.
